The Singapore Grand Prix gets a mention the Times’ "40 travel trends and tips for 2008", which doesn’t usually include mentions of Grands Prix. In case you hadn’t realised it, the Singapore Grand Prix is going to be motor sport’s biggest event of the year, bar none.

Singapore fling: In September, Singapore will host the first Formula One grand prix to be held at night, with more than 80,000 spectators expected to see if Lewis Hamilton can win. In March, Singapore will beat London with the world’s highest obervation wheel, the Singapore Flyer, which will reach 165m (541ft) above ground, compared with the London Eye’s 135m. Singapore hotels have been experiencing high occupancy for a while now, with resulting rate increases across the board, and this is expected to  continue for the next few years. The new casino developments plus a number of new hotel and resort sites are expected to ease the crunch after 2010, but don’t be disappointed by leaving your reservations to the last minute!
